As a follow-up to the online town hall where President Obama answered questions submitted and voted on through the internet, Kareem Dale, Special Assistant to the President for Disability Policy, responds to a video question from Becky Blitch. She asked whether President Obama had plans to address the problem faced by many with disability that if they enter the workforce, they actually lose health care benefits provided by state government or other sources, and whether the President supports the Community Choice Act.

I just got my first job and I was looking over the paycheck and had some questions about the deductions they take from your check.
What is Social Security Employee?
What is Medicare Employee?
What is CA – Disability Employee?
Fica or Social Security is your contribution to the Social Security Program. Under the current law, this money will be set aside for you until you reach retirement age, then it will be paid out to you in monthly installments. Every year about 3 months before your birthday, you will receive a statement from Social Security. It will tell you how much you can expect to receive when you retire. Try not to laugh when you open the envelope!. You should check this form when you receive it because it lists all the wages you received for every tax year that you worked. You want to be sure that all of your earnings were reported to Social Security.
Medicare Employee is your contribution to the Medicare system which supplies elderly people with health care. This system is suppose to cover your health care when you reach retirement age.
CA – Disability is tax withheld by the state of California. This money is collected from able workers and paid out to disabled workers. If you should ever have a disability, you will receive payments from the State to help you survive while you are out of work.

In brisbane there are a number of them.
Some use to specialist in one type of disability but now that can’t be done.
Every state in the US has a Department of Vocational Rehabilitation. Each state has a county or a multi-county office. In Michigan, there are three counties that share one office, while in my county there are 3 offices. There are also two offices that are within UCP (United Cerebral Palsy) that sponsor Federal Social Security employment programs. Each CIL (Center for Independent Living) has an employment consultant. The federal government has an office to help people find employment in the federal sector in Detroit. The are hundred of organizations that are nonprofit organizations that helps people find and create employment opportunities – Good Will, Peckham, New Horizons, Easter Seals, & more.

Does anyone know where I can find out how much money and when is coming to someone that is disabled and been approved for disability but it has been about 6-8 weeks and they have not recieved a check yet?
The website is www.ssa.gov. There is a ton of info on the website, but it’s difficult to navigate through to get specific info. Heads up: If you call the toll-free number, you probably will be on hold for a LOOOOONG time. But that’s the best way to get info specific to you and your situation.

I never seem to get ahead with the bills that I have and I only get a limited income and have been on disability and forced retirement since 1987 and up until 2003 was paying on bills that my brother charged in my name and that is when the creditors told me not to pay anything more. During that time, I had to close several accounts that I had in my name and they went to the credit bureaus and now I have bad credit as far as I am concern and need to get a loan to pay off those bills and try to get some brand new clothes and some other items that I need. Anyone with information pleaselet me know some how, by the grace of God I need the help soon. Or I will crazy!
I won’t go to payday loans because they are way too expensive and the bills I have is not all just every day bills, they are bills that I keep getting phone calls about from the creditors. Wife can’t help out at all her money that she gets on her disability goes for her medicine and all the house cleaning and the personal hygine we have to have.
I read what you wrote and need to know if you are getting your social security yet too. Because you are on forced retirement and disability you may be able to get your SS sooner. Check with that first, then go to disability and see if they supply loans. Then just for kicks do talk to a lawyer to see about other options. You may qualify for more benefits.
Good Luck, I know its hard. I send you many blessings for help!!

was in car wreck 3 months ago..won’t be released from dr care for another 3-6 months?
Social Security and medicare will not help with a short term disability. For SS disability, the disability would have to last at least 1 year, and make the person unable to do any meaningful work. Medicare doesn’t kick in until 2 years after the disability onset date, as determined by Social Security.
Some states offer short-term disability benefits to their residents, but most don’t. Your best bet would be to see if your employer offers any kind of short term disability.
The other option might be to go on food stamps and welfare for the short term if you need assistance.
